‘Rise, take up thy bed and walk.’ (part 1)

As we arrived where the signs had led us, we were confused to see that the church was closed. We pondered how this could be since according to the time, service should have long commenced. Thankfully we didn’t have to wait long. We were informed that the churches were holding a campaign. We were given directions to a nearby savannah. The tent was a buzz with excitement.

I had heard the story of the man with the withered hand so many times before but this was the first time that I identified with the character. The pastor expounded on the burdens the man must have felt. I sensed my own burden. The burden of my marriage. It was broken, I was broken. The tears streamed down my face. The pastor spoke of the hope Jesus gave the man. In fact it was more than hope. He was restored! I dared to hope, even have faith that my burden too could be lifted. I could be healed from my brokenness. I too could “rise, take up my bed and walk “. Nothing was going to tie me down, this nuptial union was going to rehabilitate and thrive!

Oh! May the God of green hope fill you up with joy, fill you up with peace, so that your believing lives, filled with the life-giving energy of the Holy Spirit, will brim over with hope, Romans 15:13.
